The Town of Danville’s hiring process involves the following steps:
- Applying Online
- Assessments and Testing (depending on position)
- Application Review
- Interview(s) and Reference Checks
- Job Offer and Pre-Employment Requirements
If you see a job posting on CalOpps that is a fit for you, we encourage you to apply. Depending on the position, you may be required to answer some qualifying questions.
Assessments and Testing
Certain positions may require you to take part in an assessment or complete an online test to determine your qualifications. If this is a requirement, the information will be included in the job posting.
Our goal is to hire the best qualified candidate within the applicant pool. The applications are reviewed by a team of selected staff. Applicants who meet the qualifications described in the job description posting will move forward.
Interview(s) and Reference Checks
We conduct interviews primarily in person with a panel of assessors. For some positions, it may be possible to conduct the first interview via Skype. The top candidates from the first interview will be invited back for a second interview before the final selection is made. If you are invited back to a second interview, you may be asked to bring two professional and one personal job reference.
Job Offer & Pre-Employment Requirements
Upon completion of the second interview the hiring Department Director will choose the number one candidate based on the feedback from the interview panelists. The Director will then prepare an offer and complete a Personnel Action Form, have it signed by the Town Manager, the Human Resource Manager and the Supervisor of the position. Human Resources will call the chosen candidate, make a verbal conditional offer and answer any questions the candidate may still have about the position or the offer. The candidate will need to pass a Live Scan background check and, in some positions, pass a pre-employment physical and drug test before the offer is final.
The other candidates who were interviewing for the position will be called by Human Resources and informed that the offer to the number one candidate has been accepted and the position is now closed. Candidates from the second interview may be eligible for remaining on an eligibility list for up to one year.
On the first day of employment you will be invited to an orientation at the Human Resources office. This will involve filling out the important documents necessary for payroll, medical and dental benefits, life insurance, disability coverage, pension and deferred compensation, I-9 form, DMV authorization and other forms. You will be given the Town of Danville's Policies and Procedures Handbook which contains all the working requirements and policies to abide by as a Town employee. You may be put in contact with a current employee who has volunteered to be your "onboarding buddy" to help you adjust to the Town’s organization culture and help answer any questions you may have during your first few months of employment.
Your supervisor will meet with you, show you to your work area, and go over your goals, objectives and duties for your six-month probationary period. Information Technology staff will help you with your computer and phone and answer any questions you may have about the office equipment. Your supervisor will introduce you to the other employees in your department and to the employees working in your facility.
We want you to have a great start as a Town of Danville employee and wish you a successful career and experience with the Town!
