Using Taxpayer Dollars Wisely

Budget Binder

Property Tax ChartEach spring, hundreds of cities throughout California begin the budget planning process for their upcoming fiscal year, which begins on July 1. The Danville Town Council is scheduled to review the Fiscal Year 2018/19 Operating Budget and Capital Improvement Program (CIP) in May.

The Town’s largest source of revenue is property tax, which is projected to close at $13.04 million in 2017/18. Of those funds, the Town of Danville receives 7.5% of property tax collected. The second largest revenue source is sales tax, projected to total $5.31 million for 2017/18. These revenue sources help fund town services, including police, parks, roads and other services. This is one reason why the economic vitality of Danville is important: supporting local business directly supports the services our community relies on.

Municipal services are delivered based on priority needs, and delivered through a combination of Town personnel, and public-private partnerships. In 2017/18, Police accounted for the largest share of spending (29.3%), followed by Maintenance (23%), Development Services (13.5%) and Recreation, Arts and Community Services (12.9%).
