  • Message from Chief Simpkins:

     Chief S.small

I recently presented the Danville Police Department’s 2011 Annual Report to the Town Council.  If you missed it, you can take a look at this year’s report along with previous years on the left hand side of this web page.

I am proud to report that our overall crime rate is down and at the lowest point in the last five years.  Reducing the opportunity for criminals to do their business in Danville is a team effort between the Police Department and you, the residents; one of the statistics we saw go down in 2011 was property crimes, and that is due in part to efforts by residents to secure their valuables and not leave them in plain view or otherwise unsecure.

Unfortunately the Town’s traffic accident rate is up slightly and with the assistance of the Transportation Department, we will use a combination of education, enforcement and engineering to reduce traffic accidents in 2012.

During 2012, the Police Department will also be continuing our outreach efforts within the community.  We have an upcoming Citizen’s Academy that will offer the chance to get an inside look at how we serve the community.  In addition, we will be hosting another Open House towards the end of summer.  We extend an open invitation to all Danville residents to attend the Citizen’s Academy and Open House events.

With the ongoing work of our staff, along with the great support we get from our residents, we will continue to send the strong message to criminals, “Not in our Town.”

Thank you for your support and please feel free to contact me with any questions.

     Steve Simpkins

    Chief of Police
